Lately I've been feeling pretty down, but one thing that is really making me feel better is an EP album, Fresh Pair of Eyes by Brooke Waggoner (2007). It is indie-pop record with a folk feel.
I can honestly say I had never in my life found an album in
which every song I’d fallen in love with, until now. I am a relatively new fan of her work, but in
this short period of time, she has become one of my favorite artists. It’s perfect music for chilly days, a hot cup
of tea, and an open heart. (This is
exactly what my day has consisted of so far).
If you have never heard of Brooke Waggoner, you are truly missing
out. She has such musical ability,
thought provoking lyrics, and a very distinctive voice. I feel she is an underrated gift to the
world.
For those who don’t know
what an EP is, it’s an extended play album that consists of more than a single
but less tracks than a typical full album.
There are six songs on Fresh Pair
of Eyes.
1.
“Hush If You Must” This song gets me dancing. If
I wasn’t so sick and the snow turned into rain, I would surely be jumping in
puddles to this song.
2.
“Wonder-Dummied” I think if I were a musical
director on a movie, I would use this song for a lovely falling-in-love
montage.
3.
“So-so” I smile every time I listen to this song. The lyrics are so clever and witty. It takes you a fun little journey.
4.
“I Am Mine” I initially fell in love with this
song because of the lyrics. I love songs
that actually have messages. It is a
very self-empowering song that lifts your spirits.
5.
“Fresh Pair of Eyes” The poetry of this song
resonates in your mind. It is so unique
and I could listen to it all day. (FYI: It was used in an episode of ABC Family’s
Pretty Little Liars!)
6.
“My Legionnaire” This song is such beautiful
storytelling. It’s a soulful and romantic
tale.
There are these incredible moments in each of her songs that
just take my breath away. Especially “My Legionnaire,” it brought tears to my
eyes, it’s so powerful. If you want to
find music that makes you love life, I suggest you check this out.
As always, thank you for reading!
