At this moment in my life, I tend to be attracted to things
that make me feel empowered. I love
feeling like I can love my life. Even
the name of my blog is my motto for that.
I have been told that I live in my own little unrealistic bubble of
optimism. Sure that’s fair criticism if
you consider I don’t watch the news, I stay away from political and religious debates,
and I think the world would benefit if we all hugged more often.
To me, my optimism is not because of any of those things. I really
just don’t give a damn. What I mean by
that is; I reserve my concerns for things that actually matter. (FYI: I’m not saying the news doesn’t matter,
it’s just sensationalized). For example, I don’t care if I’m disagreed with on
who I think is a good musician and I won’t put energy into worrying if someone
is a jerk to me. I once had a boyfriend
who, whilst breaking up with me, told me I had an ugly crying face. I have learned to just let things like that go.
There are absolutely
some things that I will dig my heels in about.
I stand my ground on opinions that I have discovered through experience
in my life and made hard conclusions about.
Forget the rest. There is a quote I heard in my philosophy class this
year, and it really stuck with me. “Your
mind is like a thunderbolt that is wrapped up in clouds of domestic matters” –Augustine,
Against the Academicians and the Teacher. What Augustine meant was that the truth about
life is inside you. You have to push
away the mundane things in life so your thunderbolt can strike. For me, I interpreted it as; you need only
forget the insignificant stuff to be able to enjoy life.
Happiness comes when
you stop caring about the baloney. Remember this especially with Thanksgiving
coming up so that you can truly appreciate the important things. That being
said, I would like to say how thankful I am for you, whoever may be reading
this. I am grateful that you thought I was worth listening to, even just this
once.
As always, thank you for reading! You can subscribe to my
blogs via email if you would like (I would surely appreciate it)
Much Love,
Julia
